Bilger, Walter “Walt” Edwin, 77, Mount Union, passed away November 23, 2019 at UPMC Altoona. Born July 17, 1942, Black Log Valley, son of the late Walter I. and Minnie (Smith) Bilger. Preceded in death by infant son; and brother, Willard G. Bilger. Survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Amy (Smith), whom he married on October 7, 1994; children, Rodney A. and Shawn D. Bilger; two grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and sister, Margaret “Peg” A. Clark. Walt will fondly be known as the “Mayor” of Hungry Hill. He was a police officer for the boroughs of Three Springs, Orbisonia, and Rockhill. Walt was the Mayor and on the Borough Council of Rockhill Furnace. He retired from Penndot after almost 32 years of service and was the owner of Bilger’s Monuments. Walt was also the President and Caretaker of the IOOF Cemetery, Rockhill Furnace. He was a board member of ORJMA and a member of the American Legion Memorial Home Association, Mount Union. Friends and family will be received Tuesday, November 26, 2019 from 6-9 p.m. and Wednesday, November 27, 2019 from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home, Pastor Robert Detwiler, officiant. Burial at IOOF Cemetery, Rockhill Furnace. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Huntingdon County Humane Society.
