Dennis E. Eckenrode

Eckenrode, Dennis E., 73, Cresson, died Feb. 11, 2015, at Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. Born Jan. 26, 1942, in Cresson, son of the late Francis and Genevieve (Read) Eckenrode. Preceded in death by parents, Dutch and Gennie Eckenrode; and sisters, Barbara, Gayle, Linda Muriceak and Judith Dalton. Survived by wife, Patricia "Trish" (Shedlock), whom he married May 4, 1968; children: Gregory, Bruceton Mills, West Va.; and Stephanie Shreiner, Lancaster; and grandchildren: Adreanna and Justin Eckenrode; and Emma and James Shreiner. Navy veteran of the Cuban missle crisis, serving on the submarine, USS Blenny SS-324, based in New London, Conn. Formerly employed by AT&T for 12 years, and then by GTE for 17 years as a communications field supervisor. Avid fisherman and member of Cresson Sportsmens Club. Friends received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Very Rev. Father John D. Byrnes. Military graveside rite by Cresson American Legion, Sankertown V.F.W. and other local veteran organizations.
