Della, Donald Dominic, 86, Cresson, died peacefully Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Maple Winds Care Center, Portage, after a courageous battle with an extended illness. Born August 28, 1929, in Gallitzin, son of the late Guy F. and Helen J. (DeCarlo) Della. Preceded in death by his love of 62 years, Margaret, on May 3, 2016, and whom he married April 9, 1954. Survived by children: Yvonne (Gene) Merritts, Altoona; Barbara Rotunda, Pittsburgh; and Donald A. Della, Cresson; grandchildren: Doug (Kim) Merritts,; and Gina Merritts, both of Altoona; Christopher Rotunda, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Alyson Rotunda, Austin, Texas; and Katie, Anthony and Josephine Della, Cresson. Don was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He took great pride in his position as an aircraft mechanic, and later became a member of the first air-refueling group in the Air Force. He worked at Bethlehem Steel Mills, Johnstown, and was the owner of Della Auto Service and Cresson Welding. Member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Cresson. Don was a hard working father for his children, a devoted husband, and a loving grandfather. He had a contagious smile and gentle nature. He enjoyed gardening, working in his garage, and spending time with his family. Don will always be remembered for his advice full of wisdom, and his integrity and work ethic, which he instilled in his children. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Family and friends received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Cresson, Msgr. Bernard Przybocki. Entombment, St. Francis Xavier Mausoleum.
