It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dorothy Mae Emery, who was a devoted Christian. Dorothy went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023, at the age of 92 years old.
Dorothy was a pillar of strength for our family and lived a life that was grounded in her unwavering faith in God. She was a faithful Christian who devoted her life to serving God, her church, her family, and spreading the love of Christ.
She was born on February 23rd, 1931, on the family farm in Greenbrier, outside of McVeytown, PA, daughter of the late Jesse J. and Esther (Casner) Harman. Throughout Dorothy’s life, she modeled the values of a grateful heart, the importance of hard work, being a servant for God, and commitment to family; but most importantly she lived a life that was centered around God. She lived her life with grace, kindness, and a selflessness that touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Throughout her life, she was an active member of her church, Cedar Crest Independent Baptist Church (former Cedar Crest Lucy Furnace Chapel), where she participated in various ministries, including the Mission Board, Sunday School, American Sign Language - Interpreting for the Deaf, Ladies Fellowship, Vacation Bible School, and Widows/Widowers Fellowship. She was known for her strong faith, her compassion, and her generosity towards others.
She lived a life that was full of joy and gratitude and always found ways to express her love for her family, friends, and community. Dorothy enjoyed volunteering at the Bricktown Senior Center where she helped serve lunches, created many crafts including beadwork and needlework for fundraising and/or gifts, as well as maintaining the registry of members and yearly dues. Dorothy also enjoyed vacationing and traveling around the country with her granddaughter, Bonnie Dilling, and family in their motorhome. Her legacy will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and everyone who was blessed to have known her.
Dorothy is survived by brother Harry Harman, spouse Sally Harman, her four children: Anna Margaret (Emery) Parrish, spouse Bernard Parrish; Robert Clark Emery, spouse Doris Emery; Susan (Emery) Fisher, and Virginia (Emery) Singer; seven grandchildren: Susanne (Parrish) Norman, spouse David Norman, Ronald Singer, Jr., Scott Singer, Bonnie Sue (Fisher) Dilling, spouse Deron Dilling, Seth Emery, spouse Chris Emery, Robert Fisher, Jr., spouse Monica Fisher, and Lori (Emery) Clark, spouse Scott Clark; fifteen great-grandchildren: Brionna Fisher, Catherine Norman, Jenna Clark, Daulton Dilling, David Norman, Jr., Logan Dilling, Reme Hughes, Kayle Fisher, Elizabeth Dilling, Abigail Emery, Pyper Fisher, Olivia Emery, Dakota Fisher, Hunter Fisher, and Sarah Fisher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carl Emery, and her fifth child, a boy who was taken home to heaven, thirteen hours after birth.
We will miss our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother dearly, but we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace with the Lord. Her unwavering faith in God has left an indelible mark on our lives, and we will forever be grateful for the time that we had with her.
Rest in peace, dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and thank you for your love, your kindness, and your unwavering faith in God. You will always be in our hearts.
