Ed married Rita M. Cepuch on July 16, 1960 at St. Francis Xavier, Cresson – his passing ends their 64 year union. Father to Annette Hines (husband, Mick McFadden) of Ebensburg; Joseph (wife, Katheryn Kiel) of Munster; and Stephen (wife, Christina Benshoff) of Munster. Grandfather & Great-Grandfather to Joseph Hines Jr., wife Julie, their children Abigail, Alexander and Arabella of Lilly; Amanda George, husband Matt, their children Callen, Olivia and Michaela of Munster; Elizabeth Hines, husband Dana Van Sambeek, daughter Lena of Minnesota; Michael Hines, wife Brittany, their children Delilah and Isaac of Delmont; and Dan Hines, wife Katie and daughter, Amelia of Cabot.

He is survived by brothers, I.J. “Duffy” Hines of Imler, and Kevin of Munster; sisters, Mary Ann Zimmerman, husband Bob of Ulster Park, NY; and M. Theresa Hines of Plantation, FL; sister-in-law, Betty Hines of Cresson; and numerous nieces and nephews, especially David and Dennis Hines. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Phoebe Ann Link and her husband, Paul Link; brother & business partner, Eugene Hines; and great-grandson, Bryce George.

Ed attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, Altoona Catholic High School, and finished his educational years at Penn State School of Agriculture. During his teen years he worked at Cresson Feed Mill and on farms, earned the honor of Eagle Scout and began his life-long vocation in the Agricultural Equipment business working for the Hines Family’s business at Cresson Feed Mill helping to expand the International Harvester business in 1965 to today’s Hines Equipment in Munster. He and his brother worked together until Eugene’s untimely passing in 2009. Through many changes, their family’s legacy continues.

Ed was a member of the Central District Volunteer Fireman’s Association and the Cresson Volunteer Fire Company – where he met many life-long family friends, serving once as President and was awarded a lifetime achievement in 1997. He was a long-time member of Penn-Jersey Equipment Dealer’s Association where he served as President in 1995; then the Northeast Equipment Dealer’s Association serving as President in 2001 – he continued his dedication until his passing. It was important to Ed to ensure that agricultural small businesses continued to be successful.

Ed was a life-long member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, where he served on the finance committee. His faith and belief in God was very strong, and he imparted that faith on his family through the generations that have followed.

Family was the most important part of Ed’s life. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life. Ed loved spending time repairing everything and making anything work. He dedicated his life to serving and helping others, a true gentleman - be it in his business, in his parish, or in the community – most always with his loving wife by his side.
