Elwood "Jim" J. Drass, Jr.

Drass, Elwood “Jim” J. Jr., 89, Cresson, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Hilltop Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Altoona. Born April 30, 1935, Loretto, son of the late Elwood J. Sr. and Kathryn D. (Batulis) Drass. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth (Conrad) Drass; daughter-in-law, Tammy Drass; and a brother, Mark Drass. Survived by his son, Michael Drass, Duncansville; daughter, Denice Drass, Grand Bay, Alabama; grandchild, Ashlynd Drass, Denver, Colorado; brother, Joe Drass, Cresson; sister, Kathy Wyland, Loretto; and numerous nieces and nephews. Elwood graduated from St. Francis University with his bachelor’s degree in economics.  He worked as a counselor at the Office of Vocational Rehab in Altoona for 32 years. Jim served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957-59. He then spent many years with the Marine Corps Reserve, serving on their rifle team, retiring in 1977 and earning the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He enjoyed rifle and pistol shooting, competing competitively for many years and winning numerous awards and trophies. He was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting. Most importantly, he cherished spending time with his family. Friends and family will be received Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 4-8 p.m., Anderson Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 233 Keystone Ave. Cresson. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10 a.m., St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Fr. Leo Arnone celebrant.
