Sipes, Evelyn (Rittner), 90, formerly of Cresson, passed away on May 8, 2016, at Cambria Care Center, Ebensburg. Born October 23, 1925, in Cresson, daughter of the late Joseph and Jenny (Rotondaro) Rittner. Preceded in death by husband, Boyd Sipes; brothers, Anthony, Frank, Robert, William, Louis and James; and sisters, Mary "Mamie" Rittner, and Geraldine Dryburgh. Survived by her stepson, Billy; sister, Adeline Eger, Merced, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Alma Hilton, Troy, New York. Also survived by sister-in-law, Bernice Rittner and nephew, James Rittner II, both of Cresson; and niece, Marianne Rittner Holmes, Belen, New Mexico, who were her healthcare advocates for the last eight years. She also leaves numerous other nieces and nephews. During World War II, all six Rittner brothers and sister Mamie served in the military. Evelyn, one of the younger siblings, stayed home and became secretary for her immigrant-parents, writing letters to all seven veterans and reading the letters they wrote home. After the war and her marriage to Boyd, she moved to upstate New York, where the two ran a U.S. mail delivery service for several decades. Always a life-long animal advocate, Evelyn was able to do more in that arena when she and Boyd retired to a hundred acre farm outside Hustontown, Fulton County, Pa. Friends received from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cresson, Rev.
