Barnish, Gertrude Sophia “Trudy”, 98, of Livonia, Michigan, passed away on November 12, 2024, at her home. Born February 22, 1926, Benscreek, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Jan and Maryanna (Czajka) Barnish. Also preceded in death by her brothers, Frank and wife Grace (Louder) Barnish, Joseph and wife Ruth (Castleberry) Barnish, John and wife Helen (Koken) Barnish, and Stanley Barnish; sisters, Ann (Barnish) Weshalek, Catherine (Barnish) and husband John Zajdel, and Rose (Barnish) and husband Joe Yanik. Survived by her sister, Mary (Barnish) Caucci; daughter, Donna Lynne Iding; son, Robert Leon Casey; granddaughters, Heather Iding and Melanie Haas; and sister-in-law, Joni (Frathellos) Barnish. Sophia was graduated from Madonna University as valedictorian with a degree in Communication. She worked as a Private Executive secretary for Dodge Main and Chrysler Corporation in Detroit. Once her children entered college, she then worked for the city of Westland until she retired. After retirement, she had the gift of living with her son, mostly in sunny Los Angeles, California, and with her daughter in Michigan. Sophia loved to play the piano and taught others her craft. She also loved to travel, most notably to Egypt, and was an avid reader. Sophia enjoyed being the best and most wonderful mother to her daughter and son, Donna and Robert, and the best grandmother to her two granddaughters, Heather and Melaine. That’s what we believe! Friends and family will be received Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Anderson Family Funeral Home, Cresson.
