Spangler, Hayes R., Petty Officer First Class, US Navy (Ret), 63, Gallitzin, passed away February 11, 2022 at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. Born March 27, 1958, Akron, OH, son of the late Robert H. and Nadine L. (Brosch) Spangler. Preceded in death by brother-in-law, Gary Ramirez. Survived by his loving wife, Sheila R. (McCusker); daughter, Jennifer (Scott) Temple, Uniontown; son, Henry (Logan) Spangler, Cresson; four grandchildren, Ariana Grace, Dante Aidyn, Madison Lynn and Lilliana Marie; sisters, Suzanne Spangler; Barbara (David) DeMinico, both of FL; Patricia (Bret Thompson), WA; brothers, Kurt (Barbara) Spangler, CA; Jeffrey (Karen) Spangler, OH; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Hayes served our country proudly in the US Navy serving as a missile technician working on the Trident I and Trident II missiles. He also served on the USS George Bancroft (SSBN-643) and the USS Simon Bolivar (SSBN-641). After his retirement from the Navy, Hayes went on to obtain his master’s degree in occupational therapy from St. Francis University. Upon completion of his degree, he worked for Health South Rehabilitation Center. Hayes was instrumental in helping start the Loretto Cub Scouts Pack 2026, where he served as their pack leader. He was also a committee member of the Cresson Boy Scouts Troop 2071. Friends and family will be received Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 12 p.m. until time of family remembrance and military honors at 3 p.m. provided by the Cresson American Legion, Sankertown VFW, and other local military organizations, Anderson Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 233 Keystone Ave., Cresson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).
