Murphy, John W. “Murph”, 88, Cresson, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023 at home with his family at his side. Born October 14, 1934, Munster Twp., son of the late Leo F. and Esther R. (Krug) Murphy. Preceded in death by his infant brother, Patrick. Survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Susan (Koons); children, David Murphy and wife, Barbara; Judy Costlow and husband, Victor; also Timothy, Joyce, Joann and James; grandchildren, Justin, Zack and Jed Murphy; Katie Partsch; Noel, David and Annalise Murphy; Emily and Colette Costlow; Nathan, Ryan, Evan and Nolan Link; Allison Lauria; Nick, Sam and Joe Barbera; and Maddie and Trenton Murphy; 16 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Roger, Norman, Francis and Bernadette. Murph received a diploma from the National Radio Institute in electronics with an FCC license. He was drafted into the US Army in 1957 and received an honorable discharge in 1959, earning the rank of PFC. Murph retired as a hoisting engineer from Beth Energy Mine 33. After his retirement, he also worked for Knopp & Klatt Excavating and Harrington Quality Construction. He was a jack of all trades. Murph loved to hunt and fish, and was a dedicated lifetime member of the Cresson Sportmans Club, where he loved to shoot trap, play cards, and pass on the traditions of the club. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.” – JWM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m., St. Francis Xavier Church, Cresson, Msgr. Stanley Carson and Fr. Leo Arnone, concelebrants. Committal at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery with military honors provided by the Cresson American Legion, Sankertown VFW and other local military organizations. Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 233 Keystone Ave., Cresson, “Honored Provider of Veterans Funeral Care™.” Condolences may be made at AndersonFamilyFuneralHomes.com.
