Patterson, John W. “Joe”, 87, Lilly, went to be with his family in heaven on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Born June 7, 1937, Nanty Glo, son of the late John and Anna (Bender) Patterson. Preceded in death by brothers, William, Francis “Hubba,” and Donald; and sisters-in-law, Ruth and Doris. Survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Shirley (O’Donnell); three daughters, Diane (Charles) Bishop, Debra (William) Kozak, and LeAnn (John) Hritz; six grandchildren, Tiffany Bishop, Amanda (Dan) George, Brian (Vicki) Kozak, Nadine (Craig) Hoffman, Charda (Bill) Hassenplug, and Katrina (Benjamin) Miller; seven great-grandchildren, Breonna (Rocco) Truscello, Casey (Drew) Murphy, Blake Miller, Kaylee Miller, Trentyn Hassenplug, Madeline and Alyson Kozak; two great-great-grandsons, Luca and Beau Truscello; baby great-great-granddaughter, Murphy, who will be born September 2025; and many nieces and nephews. John married the girl of his dreams and began to raise their beautiful family in 1957. He began his career at Cresson Sanatorium and later retired from the United Mine Workers Plant #33. John’s generosity was immeasurable to years of dedication to the Knights of Columbus, serving as Grand Knight with a 4th degree. He was a member of Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church and was very active as a Eucharistic Minister and all church events. John was an extremely loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. John taught all his family a strong sense of independence and was a solid patriarchal figure and rock of the family. John really gave life his very all and reflected that with his final words, “I’ll fight it to the end.” A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 7, 2025 at 10 a.m., Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church, 608 Main St. Lilly, Fr. Mathew Reese celebrant. Committal St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Lilly, with military honors provided by the Lilly American Legion.
