John M. Pifko

Pifko, John M., 86, resident of John Paul II Manor, formerly of Loretto, passed away peacefully November 3, 2023 at the manor. Born December 3, 1936, Newell, WV, son of the late Michael and Agnes (Nakoneczny) Pifko. Preceded in death by his two brothers; two sisters; and two nephews. Survived by his loving wife, Mary E. (Madachy), whom he married May 27, 1972 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Huntington, WV; and several nieces and nephews. John graduated from Wells High School, Newell, WV. After graduation he enlisted into the US Navy. After his time in the Navy, he went on to attend the College of Steubenville, OH where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he taught at several schools. He then moved from Ohio to Huntington, WV for a teaching position at Sacred Heart Catholic School and also attended Marshall University, where he received his master’s degree in education. After his retirement from being an educator, he and his wife moved to Loretto with their dear friend, Fr. Eugene Jacobs. Member of the Basilica of St. Michael’s where a funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 10 a.m., the Very Rev. Fr. John Byrnes celebrant. Friends will be received Tuesday, November 7, 2023 from 6-8 p.m., Anderson Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 233 Keystone Ave., Cresson. Burial St. Michael Cemetery, Loretto. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Basilica of St. Michael or to John Paul II Manor.
