Joyce L. Hammers

Hammers, Joyce L., 92, formerly of Mt Union and recently of Homewood Martinsburg, PA passed away peacefully at UPMC Altoona on December 26, 2023. Born in Mt. Union on August 10, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Elsie (Walls) Chilcote. She was preceded in death by her younger brother, Charles Howard. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 33 years, James Hammers. She is survived by her sister-in-law Audrey Hammers and nieces Joni Clugston, Debra Bair and Kathy Huhn all of Huntingdon, PA.   Mrs. Hammers graduated from Mt. Union High School in 1949. She was employed by G.C. Murphy Company until it closed in 1984 and the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store. Mrs. Hammers was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Union where she served the church faithfully in many positions throughout her life. Joyce was a member of the Red Cross where she served on its board and volunteered at Blood Mobiles. She also served on the board of the Eye Care Agency of Huntingdon County, was a long-time member of the Mount Union Senior Center and was one of the original members of the Bricktown Red Hats. She enjoyed baking, reading, and walking. All services will be privately held at the convenience of her family.
