Marie G. McDermit

McDermit, Marie G., 73, Cresson, went home to be with the Lord August 8, 2020 at UPMC Altoona. Born December 28, 1946, Baltimore, MD, daughter of Norman J. and Betty J. (Kendall) Schwalenberg. Preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law, Carl J. McDermit. Survived by her husband, Timothy C.; sons, Michael T. (Rebecca) McDermit, Los Angeles, CA; Matthew T. (Laura) McDermit, Laramie, WY; brother, Gregory J. (Barbara) Schwalenberg, Baltimore, MD; mother-in-law, Reba McDermit, Cresson; and sister-in-law, Amy (John) Jordan, Hot Springs, AR. Marie was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. She was a volunteer for the church, John Paul II Manor and the Cresson American Legion Post 238. She founded and managed the preschool at St. Aloysius from 1990 to 2008, where she was affectionately known as “Miss Marie” to many in the community and far beyond. She was a helper of all kinds and never expected anything in return. She loved to laugh and always made sure everyone was happy, safe and comfortable in all situations. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the family will have a private viewing. Funeral Mass will be celebrated, Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 12 p.m., St. Catherine of Siena Church, 308 Old Rte 22, Duncansville, Msgr. Robert Saly celebrant. Committal St. Aloysius Church Cemetery, Cresson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fresh Air Fund (www.freshair.org).
