Obester, Mary Margaret, 99, Lilly, went home to be with the Lord October 18, 2022 surrounded by her family. Born August 3, 1923, Lilly, daughter of the late John J. and Anna V. (Mericsko) Obester. Preceded in death by her sister, Agnes Obester. Survived by her sisters, Dr. Dorothy Obester, Lilly; Theresa Byrnes and husband David, Cresson; and nephew, Very Rev. Fr. John Byrnes, Loretto. Mary received her associates degree in business from Mount Aloysius College in 1943. She devoted her life to service in ministries of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, serving as secretary at St. John & St. Mary Orphanage, Cresson; St. Edward Parish, Barnesboro (Northern Cambria); Prince Gallitzin Chapel House, Loretto; Our Lady of Victory Parish, State College; and the Diocesan Education Department, Altoona. Mary served as executive assistant to Bishop J. Carroll McCormick, James J. Hogan and Joseph V. Adamec, retiring in 1988. In 1995, Mary was awarded the Prince Gallitzin Cross in recognition of her devote service and discipleship in the evangelizing characteristic of the Servant of God, Demetrius Augustine Gallitzin. She enjoyed singing with her parish choir and was a gourmet cook. Mary will be deeply missed by her family. Friends will be received Friday, October 21, 2022 from 2-5 p.m. at Anderson Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11 a.m., Our Lady of the Alleghenies Chapel, Lilly, Very Rev. Fr. John Byrnes and Fr. Matthew Reese, celebrants. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Lilly. Arrangements have been entrusted to Anderson Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 233 Keystone Ave., Cresson.
