Thomas, Roy E. Jr., 85, Three Springs, passed away Thursday September 12, 2024, at home. Born September 12, 1939, Huntingdon, son of the late Roy E. Thomas Sr. and Dorothy L. (Brown) Thomas. Survived by his loving wife, Dolores M. (Wilson) Thomas; children, Jeffrey E. Thomas and wife, Frani; and Kirk E. Thomas and wife, Nanette; 3 grandchildren, Matthew, Cassandra and Benjamin Thomas; 4 great grandchildren, Marley, David, Elijah and Evergreen Thomas; and a sister, Dottie S. Geckle. Preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Irvin Thomas. Roy was a 1957 graduate of Saltillo Joint High School. He continued his education at Shippensburg University where he was a captain of the baseball team and a member of the football team before graduating in 1961. Roy had a career in education, serving as a teacher at James Buchanon High School in Mercersburg for 8 years where he was the founder and head coach of their first football team. He then taught at Juniata Valley High School where he was a coach of football, baseball and JV basketball. After retiring from teaching Roy served as Jury Commissioner for 2 terms and then was elected as Huntingdon County Commissioner from 2000 to 2007. Roy was a 50 plus year member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #688 in Mount Union, a member of the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, and a 50 plus year member of the Lions Club International with his local branch being the Saltillo Lions Club. Roy loved to play golf and sports—if he wasn’t on the golf course he could be found watching sports. Visitation will be on Sunday September 29, 2024, from 1:30 p.m. until the time of a celebration of life at 3 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Three Springs, 8655 Hudson St, Three Springs, PA 17264. Interment will be at Bowman’s Chapel Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heath-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 61 E.
