Ruth M. Covert

Ruth M. (Locke) Covert, 92, Orbisonia, passed away on Tuesday November 9, 2021, at Fulton County Medical Center. Born October 16, 1929, daughter of the late Carrie Locke. Ruth was united in marriage to E. Leroy Covert on August 20, 1946. Her husband preceded her in death on February 17, 1991. Surviving are her children, David L. Covert and wife, Mina; Carol D. Pierce and husband, Donald; Kathleen E. Rabenstein and husband, George; Donna Morgan and husband, William; Christine M. Walters and husband, Craig; Kevin L. Covert and wife, Penne and Jason R. Covert and wife, Jaynelle. Ruth loved and was loved by 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She also had many nieces and nephews, Shelby, Glenda, Cathy, Gloria, and Michele just to name a few. Ruth is preceded in death by three brothers, Warren Locke, Harry “Bud” Cromer, and Donald Cromer. As a longtime member of the Rockhill Church of the Brethren, Ruth lived her faith by serving on many boards and committees over the years and was given Deaconess Emeritus status on April 28, 2019. She also attended the Church of the Brethren Annual Conference many years as a delegate and participant. Ruth was active in the Middle PA District Church of the Brethren serving on the District Board and as a delegate for District Conference. She was one of the first members to serve on the Bright Beginnings Nursery School Board, a mission she helped to establish for the Rockhill Church of the Brethren. During her life Ruth worked in the garment industry, retiring from Dalco Industries at Rockhill Furnace. She also served as relief house parent with the Milton Hershey School for many years. In addition to her church work, Ruth had many interests during her lifetime. She enjoyed sewing and mending for family and Woodland Retirement Center, quilting, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles and playing Words with Friends to name a few. She especially enjoyed following both NASCAR and dirt track racing, especially # 15, 43 A and 72, going to the beach and gardening. Friends and family will be received on Saturday November 13, 2021, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. for visitation at the funeral home followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m., Pastor Traci Rabenstein, officiant and Pastor Doug Sherlock. Inurnment at Mount Union Cemetery to follow. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
