Hooper, Samuel Vaughn III., 61, Mapleton Depot, passed away on Friday September 8, 2023, at UPMC Altoona. Born September 2, 1962, Huntingdon, son of the late Samuel Vaughn Hooper II and Alice Mae (Henry) Hooper. Survived by his loving wife, Robin G. (Jamison) Hooper whom he married on June 27, 1987; son, Samuel Vaughn Hooper IV and wife, Karen; stepdaughter, Krystal Wynette Skipper and husband, Tim; 6 grandchildren, Myla Gaynelle Jean Ann Kurtz and husband, Shawn; Jada Marie Gaynelle Sausman; Levi Kenneth Samuel Snyder; Lyric Robert James Snyder; Cole Samuel Hooper and Gage Robert Hooper; 3 great grandchildren, Ivan James Vaughn Worthy; Taylan Ruth Kurtz and Jayce Marshall Kurtz; sister, Rhonda Gibson and husband, Richard. Preceded in death by brother, Ira Lee Hooper. Samuel was a 1980 graduate of Mount Union Area High School. He honorably served his country with the 2nd Battalion 112th Infantry Pennsylvania National Guard during the Lebanon/Grenada conflict. Samuel was employed as a plumber with Spicklers. He was a 17-year member of the Mapleton American Legion Post 322 where he was the post commander for the past 3 years and served on the color guard unit. He will be remembered as a very patriotic member and a strong leader of the Post. Samuel was also a lifetime member of the Mapleton Fire Company, serving for 46 years. He recently served as a member of the fire police and is a life member of the Huntingdon County Fireman’s Association where he was a former president. Samuel enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He liked spending time in West Virginia. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday September 13, 2023, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Thursday September 14, 2023, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon, at the funeral home, Pastor Ed Seely, officiant. All local fire companies are invited to take part in the last call which will be Wednesday September 13, 2023, at 7 p.m. Interment at Mapleton I.O.O.F. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mapleton Fire Company, 384 W Main St, Mapleton, PA 17052 or the Mapleton American Legion Post 322, E. Railroad St, Mapleton, PA 17052. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heath-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 61 E.
