Fortson, Virginia Elizabeth “Cheita” (Posey), 79, of 11 West Chestnut St. Mount Union, PA passed away on Tuesday December 27, 2022, peacefully at home with her family by her side. Born Sept 8, 1943, in Mount Union PA, she was the daughter of the late Violet (Posey) Norris. Survived by her husband, Donald Lee Fortson Sr., who she was united in marriage to on February 18, 1972, in Lewistown PA. Mrs. Fortson is survived by her children, Brian Fortson and wife, Donna of Marietta PA; Donald Fortson Jr. of Mount Union PA; and Nicole Walker and husband, Solomon Jr. of Clarksburg MD. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Kayla McCoy, Alexis Fortson, Hannah McCoy, Dennisha Fortson, DaeLynn McGeary and Brianna Fortson; and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Ella Cauthen of Philadelphia PA and two brothers, Melvin Norris Jr. of Oshkosh WI and Kelvin Norris of Lewistown PA. Mrs. Fortson was lifelong member of Bethel AME church in Mount Union PA. As a member, Mrs. Fortson was active in the following capacities: Church Stewardess, Secretary and Treasurer of the Mary Brown Missionary Ministry, and Kitchen Coordinator. Additionally, she was also active in the adult choir. Mrs. Fortson was 1961 graduate of Simon Gratz high school in Philadelphia PA. After graduation, she was employed at Elco Corporation in Huntingdon PA. Mrs. Fortson’s hobbies were her love of animals—especially birdwatching and her aquarium, reading, needlework, and television shopping networks. Mrs. Fortson was her husband’s biggest cheerleader with his coaching and involvement in community sports. Friends and family will be received on Monday January 2, 2023, from 10a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m., at the funeral home, Pastor Deborah Widget and Pastor Sylvia Morris, officiants. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Bethel AME Church Missionary Ministry, 16 West Grant Street, Mount Union, PA 17066.
