Reed, Virginia D., Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. Victoriously Virginia D. Reed went Home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 22, 2023, at the age of 93. Her vision and hearing are now perfect as she saw and heard her Lord say, "Welcome home, thou good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of My rest." She had been living with her niece Virginia Skipper at the time of her passing.
Born April 11, 1930, on Gannister Hill, Mount Union, she was the daughter of Frank and Maggie (Warnick) Woods. She was the youngest of 15 siblings and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She married Rev. Fern Robert Reed on February 1, 1957. Her husband passed away August 26, 1982, while pastoring the Pine Glen Alliance Church.
Most of her adult life she worked with her husband in ministry with the Christian and Missionary Alliance in churches in West Hyattsville, MD; Elizabethtown, Allentown, and Pine Glen, PA. She was very active in children's ministry in every church they pastored. She was also a very accomplished teacher of youth and ladies' groups. She delighted in serving the Lord as a hostess for guest speakers, music groups, congregants, family and friends. She felt it an honor and privilege to serve her Lord, whether in full-time ministry or after she was widowed. In her later years she enjoyed preparing and delivering meals to those who were ill or bereaved. She loved to visit shut-ins. She was a mentor and good example to younger women. She didn't want to see anyone reject Christ as Savior.
She was a 1948 graduate of Mount Union High School.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and the following siblings:Senora(Woods)Snouffer, John Woods, Rita(Woods)Myers, Julia(Woods) Yocum, Jesse (Woods) Price, George Woods, James Woods, Paul Woods, Clarence Woods, Mildred (Woods) Skipper, Mary (Woods) Connelly, Genevieve (Woods)Wharton. Two siblings died in infancy.
Succeeding her are many nieces and nephews. Nephew Sam Skipper and niece Virginia Skipper were extra close to her.
Viewing for family and friends will be at the Mount Union Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 217 S Washington St, Mount Union, on Thursday April 27, 2023 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 p.m., officiated by Rev. Richard Peck and Rev. Stephen Motter.
