Willis Allen Nearhood Sr.

Nearhood, Willis Allen, 69, Mifflintown, passed away Monday August 28, 2023. Born September 14, 1953, Huntingdon, son of the late Allen Charles and Lucy Marie (Watkins) Nearhood. Preceded in death by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Barbara A. (Booher) Nearhood. Also preceded in death by an infant sister, Veronica Nearhood. Survived by his children, Willis A. Nearhood Jr. and wife, Candy; and Jill C. Batterson and husband, James; 7 grandchildren, Christian Wallace, Carissa Nearhood, Noah Nearhood, Selah Nearhood, Jayna Delaney, Audrey Batterson and Ellie Batterson; siblings, Bonita Hooper and husband, Frank; Roger Nearhood and wife, Teresa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Willis was a 1971 graduate of Southern Huntingdon County High School. He worked as a lineman for the local phone company for over 40 years. Willis was obsessed with classic muscle cars and enjoyed restoring them. Willis was a kindhearted man and known for his generosity. Willis was quick-witted and known for his devilish smirk. Most of all he will be remembered for being a family man and loved to spend time with them—especially his children and grandchildren. Family and friends will be received on Friday September 8, 2023, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m., at the funeral home, Pastor Kurt Herzberg, officiant.
